Beta Program – NEW Products – Florida Que Summit

Beta Program

Component Control is officially offering a beta program for existing Quantum-ERP customers.  The Beta Program will allow selected customers to get early versions of new Quantum Software.  The program is designed to get early customer feedback to refine and advance key product initiatives.  If interested, please register for the program here.

Quantum Mobility – New Imaging Applicaiton

The first software being offered as part of the beta program is Mobile Imaging.  Mobile Imaging is installed on a DROID or IOS mobile phone or tablet add is completely integrated with Quantum-ERP.  Mobile Imaging makes it easy add/edit images to Sales orders and Scan Barcodes for stock-lines and orders.  Learn more about Mobile Imaging here.


Que Summit – South Florida

Component Control is coming to Florida in August.  With limited spaces left, Component Control is hosting a one-day Summit at Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville hotel in Hollywood Florida.  The event will be casual on August 23, 2018 and will feature talks on Quantum-ERP basic and advanced features, new products, and specialized accounting.  The event will run from 10am – 6:30pm.  Lunch will be served and we will end the day with a relaxing happy hour where you can mingle with other attendees.  This is a free event but space is limited so it is reservation only event.  If you haven’t registered please do so before registration closes.  Register here.

We are at the half-way mark in 2018 and I wanted to reflect on what I have leaned so far this year at Component Control.

  5. Partnerships and Customer engagement driving our growth

Every one I have met has a genuine interest in doing their best, every day.  From Accounting to Services to Support, these people want to be the best at supporting the customer.  This is a great foundation to continue to build for growth and continued success.  There are great people that are the foundation of the company.

History of Component Control in #Aviation-ERP

The team at Component Control has incredible domain expertise and a rich history in Aviation.  When the initial development was first started, Quantum was built leveraging aviation best practices.  Each developer had to be more than a coder.  They had to work with our customers understand the role of the users and they designed the product to meet regulatory, accounting, process and industry best practice requirements.  Component Control at every level understands the Aviation space, from distributors to MRO’s.

The changes that have been made this year to help us align resources to be more customer facing has provided significant growth.  Component Control has a history in #aviation-ERP since 1985 and has had tremendous growth.  In the last few years, growth has slowed.  This year, after refocusing our efforts on our customers, we have grown 30% year-over-year.  Higher engagement is clearly helping us work more closely with customers and partners to grow our business.

Innovation is key to continuing to grow.  We recently announced at Que Group that we are releasing more mobile applications and more analytics for Quantum.  We are investing R&D resources to continue the advancement of the platform and are creating greater value for our current and future customers.  We are excited on what is possible in continuing to provide leadership in the aviation ERP space.

Partnership’s are of high importance to us.  Our technology, integrators, and OEM partners provide scale, new features to customers, and greater technology advancement than we could provide alone.  We announced this year that we are now a fully authorized reseller of Oracle and integration partner for AeroXchange.  Both great partnerships.  Look for more partnership advancement for the rest of 2018.

The first half of 2018 has been exciting.  I have gotten to work with truly great people and spend time with our clients and partners to gain a better understanding on how Component Control’s Quantum-ERP Software can continue to lead, innovate and provide guidance in  the aviation after market.

QUE GROUP 2018 – This was my first QUE Group and I was impressed with how the user conference was managed, the attendance of over 170 customers, the great conversations with users, and the overall user interest in innovation and technology.

The QUE Group is an independent organization and while Component Control does contribute to the event, it is managed as a separate independent organization.  I have planned and organized sponsored events before and I wasn’t sure how this event would unfold.  It turns out that Quantum-ERP users are highly independent and pervasive in both their love of Quantum and their thirst for more ways to get the most out of their ERP software.

The Keynote was particularly interesting as Sean Lanagan, SVP from CAMP Systems (Component Control’s parent company), started the conference with his vision of how innovation can transform the Aviation industry and how Component Control is a key piece in the overall CAMP/Hearst strategy.  Innovation and transformation were clearly the themes of the event.

During the conference I was able to speak with several people about Quantum, QUE Group, and how the current and new technology from Component Control helps them in their business.

I spoke with Ken Wierzba from Safran and he said “I’m really excited with the Mobile Tech capabilities and new Business Analytics.  These are new tools that will help us maximize productivity.”

Jennifer Evans and Brian Tyminski from Compressed Gas Systems said “We are looking to leverage the Event Manager capabilities in order to automate emails and alerts.”

Andrej Volodko from FL Technics said “I want to leverage Quantum BI to implement predictive analytics.”

Marineusa Santos Melo from Embraer said “I use Quantum all day long to support my region.  Embraer has 200+ users on Quantum and we are expanding.”

I left the conference with a better understanding of what Component Control customers are interested in, how rabid they are in their love of Quantum, and their overall quest for more, more more…










Is it Time for Quantum-ERP Boot CAMP by the Bay?

Need Advanced Training on Quantum-ERP?  How about Boot CAMP by the Bay?

Component Control has thousands of users around the globe that rely on Quantum Control as critical infrastructure to run their business.  With the release of version 10.10 we have significantly advanced our product and with the advancement clients who have not regularly upgraded to the most current release find it difficult to “self-train” on the new features.

With that being said, it can actually be much more troubling.  Quantum has been in the market since 1999 and we have had several of our customers using Quantum since the early 2000’s.  Implementation, training, process management were all done as part of the initial roll-out of Quantum and in several instances those initial domain experts have left the company.  Training has been taken over by tribal knowledge.  Last user out, training the next user in.  So, as you can imagine, the proficiency and robustness of what Quantum brings gets watered down as time goes on.

What to do?  Jump back in.

Quantum Boot Camp

We just recently had 14 department leads from Embraer join us in San Diego, California, for a week-long Boot Camp.  Embraer doesn’t just want to be proficient with their tools, they want to be maximally efficient.  Efficiency means that they get the most out of the infrastructure they have while empowering their employees to maximize their productivity.

Under Frank Stevens the VP Global MRO Centers direction, maximizing the use of Quantum is a high priority.  Quantum is currently in use in several locations and Embraer has a directed focus on training, best practices, metrics, and Quantum leverage across all sites.

During the “Quantum Boot Camp” the top trainers of Quantum and Sr. Management from both Component Control and CAMP Systems discussed how to achieve maximum leverage with their Quantum application, and talked about new development initiatives and product enhancements that would create even more long-term company value.

Personally, getting to know how Quantum is being leveraged on a global basis by Embraer helped me understand what Quantum does today and how best to align what Quantum will bring in the future.  The session was immensely beneficial for all involved and I look forward to continuing to work with Embraer as a strategic customer.

Learning, Scale, and Vision

I joined Component Control as Sr. Vice President in January-18 and as “the new guy” I spent the last 60 days traveling the globe to meet with Customers, Partners, and Prospective Clients to learn more about what they want, what they like about Component Control, and how Quantum-ERP is positioned in the Aviation Software Market.  Personally, having over 20 years in the global commercialization of software but no experience in this space, I felt that it was critical to quickly get a better understanding of the Aviation market.  With that purpose in mind, I met with several customers and prospects and attended several trade shows including AEA, HAI, ILS, and MRO Americas.  Although far from an aviation software expert, I listened and learned.


Nearly every customer that I spoke with LOVES Quantum.  I really felt their passion for the product and I was told that our software was part of their daily work life.  They leverage Quantum aviation software as the foundational system that they use to build, repair, inventory, ship, account, sell, and support their customers.

I heard that they want to do more with Quantum by gaining higher accessibility, increased visibility, and quickly identifying business impacts and opportunities for productivity gains.  I heard that they want more integration with 3rd party software and marketplace providers.  I heard that most want more training and to get a better understanding of what they have but are not yet using.  I also heard that our customers are excited to attend our user conference in June (QUE Group) to meet their peers across the aviation space to share best practices and learn more about Quantum.  These market lessons have allowed me to action a vision and plan for 2018 and beyond.  For us to deliver this plan we will need an even higher level of customer engagement and leverage our, now, formidable business scale.


Component Control is a different company than it was three years ago.  We started as a founder owned business and grew rapidly by capturing the majority of the aviation parts logistics and MRO markets.  With more than 1,500 global aviation customers, we are the product that companies in this space rely on.  We are now part of an even larger market as a CAMP Systems owned company and part of the $10.6B Hearst Portfolio.  CAMP Systems has over 800 employees and those resources are now available to Component Control.  We are actively engaged with CAMP on product development, marketing, operations, support and finance.  Those joined resources have already produced great results in the delivery of new products (CAMP Connect & MobileTech) and improved imaging and branding with our newly designed Website.


2018 will be a year of leverage in building new applications around mobility, visibility, and accessibility.  We are actively engaged in building deeper partnership with existing partners like Oracle and evaluating several exciting new partnerships.  We are working to improve the users experience in with more access to more vendors, better filtering, and community sharing.  With over 150,000 searches per day and over 3,000 vendors, we feel StockMarket can be even better and will continue to remain free to list. And finally, we are encouraging our customers to come to San Diego and attend Quantum Academy.  We offer a full week of training every third week of the month and once completed attendees will be certified on Quantum, get exposure to new products, and gain a better understanding of their existing capabilities.  If you require more Quantum training please attend, meet our team, enjoy the food in Little Italy and the San Diego sunshine.

2018 – CCI Steps up to Quantum-ERP QSTEP SaaS Platform

I had a recent conversation with Jacob Wright, President of CCI Aero. CCI is based in South Carolina and is a full aviation parts stocking distributor who just recently implemented QSTEP, Component Control’s new Cloud Based Aviation ERP Software for Parts Traders.

Q: Jacob, thanks for meeting with me. Can you tell me a little more information about CCI Aero?

A: Absolutely, CCI is a company that I recently founded that specializes in Aviation parts distribution. We plan to expand into nose-to-tail but are focused on Avionics (APU) and (QEC) Engine parts and stock the parts that are most frequently used in the marketplace.

Q: How are you acquiring your inventory?

A: We target tear-downs and surplus assets both domestically and internationally.

Q: Why did you purchase Quantum QSTEP for your business?

A: There were a few reasons QSTEP made sense for us. I have been in the industry for 13 years and am familiar with the Software provided by Component Control, and its broad market usage. Further, the integration with our Cloud-Based Financial system (QuickBooks) was key in supporting our paperless objectives.

Q: What other features do you feel were positive in generating ROI for subscribing to Quantum QSTEP?

A: The ability to store files in the cloud and not have to build out IT will save us significant costs. The web-based User Interface gives us a lot of flexibility by allowing us to use the service from a desktop, tablet, or mobile device.

Q: Did you take advantage of the training program that is included with the on boarding?

A: I did but I kind of “jumped the line”. I was anxious to get started and had already used Quantum before so I didn’t need quite as much training. Happy that we have it available should we need more.

Q: Did you take advantage of the Premium Services as part of the recent promotion that we ran?

A: Not yet. I am not as familiar with as some of the other parts e-listing services. Now that I know it is free, and premium is included in the initial subscription, I will be looking into implementing.

2018 – SAFRAN Landing Systems rolls out Quantum Control MobileTech to automate the real-time collection of Labor.

MobileTech is an extension of the Quantum Platform that runs on a tablet or handheld device and provides real time tracking of labor as the technician is performing the work.

I recently met with Ken Wierzba, a 16-year veteran of aviation MRO services at the SAFRAN subsidiary, to discuss his recent roll-out of Quantum Control’s new MobileTech application. Ken shared how this new application improves his ability to quote, schedule, and cost his repair of Aircraft wheels and brakes.

Customer Experience interview Q & A with Ken Wierzba:

Q: What is the reason that you made the company-wide purchase of MobileTech?

A: We were originally going to roll-out the bar code application from Quantum but MobileTech had more value to us since we could leverage the handheld devices our team was already using.


Q: How did you justify the purchase?

A: MobileTech was pretty easy to cost justify as the way we previously collected information on labor was to perform time and motion studies for each job, at each site. We found this to be not as accurate as we would like. Sometimes we were over our estimates and other times we were under. Location, Technician, Tooling, etc. all had effects that changed the results.


Q: How do you leverage the information as it is collected?

A: The real-time data provides us with accurate forecasting as to labor cost and enables us to better queue our work groups so that we know precisely when material will move from station to station. This also helps with overall planning for Work In Process, materials, and issuing to jobs. Another advantage is being able to know exactly where on the floor the product is located, who is working on it, and its current status.


Q: This sounds incredibly valuable in bidding and understanding profitability of work orders. You’re also leveraging Quantum’s ability to predict profitability and time to complete.

A: Absolutely. It is true, we can now forecast with much more accuracy.


Q: This is great. How are you looking to extend the product? What is on your Quantum wish list?

A: The MobileTech, and Quantum in general, is great at collecting data and reporting. I would like to be able to roll the data up into a real-time BI dashboard to track and analyze so we can continue to refine our processes. It would also be great to be able to alert and notify if thresholds are out of band.


That sounds like a great way to get full leverage of Quantum. We are currently working on some new initiatives and will keep you posted as we continue to expand on our product.
